SBIT signs MoU with Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune
An Automatic Weather Station (AWS) is established at the campus of Shri Balwant Institute of Technology (SBIT), Sonepat, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune. In this regard, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between SBIT and IITM, Pune.
The MoU was signed on behalf of SBIT by its Chairperson, Ms. Sushil Yadav.
The Automatic Weather Station will record key meteorological parameters such as wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity, rainfall, and other atmospheric data. Based on this data, accurate weather forecasts can be developed, which will be useful for education, research, agriculture, disaster management, and climate studies.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Ms. Sushil Yadav said that this centre will not only benefit students and researchers but will also be a significant scientific asset for the Sonepat region. It will help in generating reliable local weather data and support farmers and authorities by providing timely alerts related to adverse weather conditions.
She further stated that the data generated through this modern, technology-driven station will contribute to climate change studies and the development of improved forecasting systems. Advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning will also be used to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of weather predictions.
This initiative is being seen as an important step forward in strengthening education, research, and scientific infrastructure, and is expected to bring long-term benefits to both the institution and the region.
